Royal Opera House – The Nutcracker

Season’s Greetings!

Here is Yasmine Naghdi, principal dancer at The Royal Opera House, in full Sugar Plum Fairy costume as shot for The Sunday Times.

Head over to ROH for more info on this years production of The Nutcracker, and to see how dancers learn this iconic role.

Thanks to Yasmine, Sarah and all at ROH for their time and hospitality.

Merry Christmas.

Personal project

R.I.P Chester Bennington of Linkin Park

Lead singer Linkin Park

Rest In Peace @chesterbe ….I spent 3 days with @linkinpark and @chesterbe on a shoot for @qmagazineuk in 2001.

We we’re in the midst of nowhere USA in the midwest and they we’re playing #Ozfest.

I remember Chester as being a great chilled out and friendly guy, with a glint in his eye. You could tell there was a lot ‘under the bonnet’ in the man.

This is a shot we did unplanned just before sunset close to St Louis I think. Its calmness and rock n roll all rolled into one.

I love that his skin tones match the wood and that the fingers are the reverse of the electrical pylon lines in the back.

God bless you man. You gave a lot of joy to a lot of people and will be sorely missed.

Location shoots

Really been enjoying being out and about on location recently.

I often use a ton of equipment in the studio, so its really liberating being out and about with just one lens, a bunch of cf cards and a reflector.

It’s all very natural and back to basics and can be a very playful approach to shooting a portrait.

Not that I’ve given up on my mega set ups in the studio mind!

Here are some of my favourites featuring Pippa, Marianna and Jana.

Sport Uncovered

I have a couple of images in this week’s Sport Magazine that I’m really pleased to be sharing with you.

Hammer thrower and olympian Sophie Hitchon and 2016 gold medallist synchro diver Chris Mears.

Thanks to John and Julian and the wonderful team at Sport Magazine. I am of course very sorry to be saying farewell to the title today which after 10 years will be no more.

The Botox Dilemma

I always find it fascinating to see what my personal work gets used for.

Here is a book cover from The Netherlands for Nathalie Huigsloot’s ‘het botox dilemma’

Nerd fact: Note how ‘The’ in Dutch consists of the same letters as in English but just in a different order.
